The 10 best islands in America, according to travelers

Key WestTripAdvisor has just released the winners of its 2016 Travelers' Choice Awards, naming the top 10 islands in the US.

To create the list, TripAdvisor analyzed the quantity and quality of reviews of hotels, restaurants, and attractions on the islands within the last year, in addition to traveler booking interest on the website.

To help make planning a vacation to these islands easier, TripAdvisor also included the average nightly rate of all hotels for each destination, as well as the seasonal average hotel rates and savings you can expect during shoulder season.

From Michigan's Mackinac Island to Mount Desert Island in Maine, here are the 10 American islands travelers love most:

No. 10. Mackinac Island, Michigan

Average nightly rate of all bookable hotels: $298

Average seasonal hotel rates: spring — $239, summer — $337, fall — $289, winter — N/A (hotels closed in the winter)

Average shoulder-season savings during spring: 29%

Reason to book now: 68th annual Mackinac Island Lilac Festival (June 3-12)



No. 9. Chincoteague Island, Virginia

Average nightly rate of all bookable hotels: $157

Average seasonal hotel rates: spring — $108, summer — $192, fall — $114, winter — $82

Average shoulder-season savings during spring: 44%

No. 8. Marco Island, Florida

Average nightly rate of all bookable hotels: $312
