If the words “Bangkok travel” make you think of backpackers and banana pancakes, then you may be in for a surprise. Thailand also has a modern and upscale side, which I investigate in this new video.
Bangkok’s fashion scene is as experimental as that of Tokyo or Seoul. I found ribcage corsets in Siam Discovery mall, and met two sisters who design cosplay and Lolita dresses.
At night, locals hang out in the trendy Thonglor district. I drank roselle cocktails at a retro bar, and danced to vinyl records in a three-floor club.

Disclaimer: La Carmina’s trip was hosted by the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and hotel accommodations were provided by Sofitel So Bangkok.
I stayed at the Sofitel So, a fashion hotel that dresses the staff in Christian Lacroix.
The floors are divided into five elements, each with a different decorator. My favorite theme was Earth.
I sampled cocktails and read fashion magazines in the Club Lounge, also designed by Christian Lacroix.
